Weekend in Maastricht

We spent last weekend with oma Matheij (grandma Matheij, my mom's mother) in her hometown Maastricht. This is a town in the very south of the Netherlands.

We visted the caves of Valkenburg in which there was a really nice Christmas fair.

The caves were really pretty and full of little christmas stands.

The town of Valkenburg has a very nice old city center.

Next to the caves, we also went to downtown Maastricht for a walk. As you can see, it's getting colder over here.

On the bridge, overlooking the Maas river.

If you're ever in the neighbourhood...

We had a very pleasant surprise yesterday evening when Cathy and J Jordan called to let us know they were in the country. After a trip to a film festival in Milan they traveled all over Europe and were in Holland one more night before flying back. So we had a very nice dinner with them and got to show them our home, it was great.

If anyone else is ever in the neighbourhood, don't hesitate to call :-)

Working on the car

Last weekend Ben changed some parts on our beautifull Volvo 440.

Ofcourse he didn't have to do it alone. There was lots of help from our neighbours.

It's a tough job, but someone has to do it :-)

On Thursday November 8th, I was invited to a partner event of one of our business partners. And what do you know, none of my collegues were able to join me. Who better to join me then than my own personal American.

And lucky for Ben it was an awesome event with GPS track seeking, BBQ food and 4x4 driving at night!

Back at the game

Last summer, up at Lucky Peak reservoir, Ben hurt his ribs and wasn't able to play rugby for awhile. But since about a week or three, he's back at the game and loving it.
Here are some pictures of the game of Sunday November 4th. They didn't win (at all), but you wouldn't be able to tell from the pictures.

Mr. Brown, the teacher

For a couple of weeks now, Ben has been teaching Biology at the Cals College (high school) in our hometown of Nieuwegein.

So far, the students absolutely love him. Hopefully taht won't change now that they had their first test last Friday ;-) Luckily most of them did really well.

Here's a picture of Ben grading the tests. Doesn't he look all teachered-up?!

Halloween

As some of you might know, people don't celebrate Halloween in the Netherlands. But that didn't stop us! Our good friends Michiel and Eline came over for pumpkin carving and scary movies. And although the pumpkins weren't nearly as big as what Ben is used too, they still turned out really good.
